چکیده

Quantum spin liquids may be considered 'quantum disordered' ground states of spin systems, in which zero-point fluctuations are so strong that they prevent conventional magnetic long-range order. More interestingly, quantum spin liquids are prototypical examples of ground states with massive many-body entanglement, which is of a degree sufficient to render these states distinct phases of matter. Their highly entangled nature imbues quantum spin liquids with unique physical aspects, such as non-local excitations, topological properties, and more. In this review, we discuss the nature of such phases and their properties based on paradigmatic models and general arguments, and introduce theoretical technology such as gauge theory and partons, which are conveniently used in the study of quantum spin liquids. An overview is given of the different types of quantum spin liquids and the models and theories used to describe them. We also provide a guide to the current status of experiments in relation to study quantum spin liquids, and to the diverse probes used therein.

Vaporization of Kitaev spin liquids.

The quantum spin liquid is an exotic quantum state of matter in magnets. This state is a spin analog of liquid helium that does not solidify down to the lowest temperature due to strong quantum fluctuations. In conventional fluids, the liquid and gas possess the same symmetry and adiabatically connect to each other by bypassing the critical end point. We find that the situation is qualitatively...

Frustrated resonating valence bond states in two dimensions: classification and short-range correlations.

Resonating valence bond (RVB) states are of crucial importance in our intuitive understanding of quantum spin liquids in 2D. We systematically classify short-range bosonic RVB states into symmetric or nematic spin liquids by examining their flux patterns. We further map short-range bosonic RVB states into projected BCS wave functions, on which we perform large-scale Monte Carlo simulations with...

Chiral spin states and superconductivity.

It is shown that several different order parameters can be used to characterize a type of P and T -violating state for spin systems, that we call chiral spin states. There is a closely related, precise notion of chiral spin liquid states. We construct soluble models, based on P and T symmetric local spin Hamiltonians, with chiral spin ground states. Mean field theories leading to chiral spin li...

Quantum Orders and Symmetric Spin Liquids

A concept – quantum order – is introduced to describe a new kind of orders that generally appear in quantum states at zero temperature. Quantum orders that characterize universality classes of quantum states (described by complex ground state wave-functions) is much richer then classical orders that characterize universality classes of finite temperature classical states (described by positive ...

Weyl spin liquids.

The fractionalization of quantum numbers in interacting quantum many-body systems is a central motif in condensed-matter physics with prominent examples including the fractionalization of the electron in quantum Hall liquids or the emergence of magnetic monopoles in spin-ice materials. Here, we discuss the fractionalization of magnetic moments in three-dimensional Kitaev models into Majorana fe...
